Hi, I’m Will Lee, founder of One Thing Required. Have you ever wondered how successful entrepreneurs got their start and built their businesses? One Thing Required is a business podcast about entrepreneurship where I interview successful entrepreneurs, authors and experts to learn:
- where they got the ideas for their businesses
- exactly how they got started
- where they got stuck
- how they pushed through to success
- their best advice for us on how we can be more successful
In addition to guest interviews, I will do non-interview podcasts where I discuss key points from some of the interviews or “lessons” and how-to’s about various topics.
Whether you are already running a business or want to start a business, this podcast is a must for you! The best way to learn and improve quickly is to get advice from others who have walked the path before you. Accelerate your journey to success. Listen to my guests, take notes, and ask me questions.
And then: Take Action! That is the One thing Required. Only by taking action will you ever achieve success.

About Me – Will Lee
After graduating college with a degree in Economics, I joined a small startup and commenced my career working my way up through Finance organizations of various companies. I made one more stop in school a few years later to earn an MBA degree specializing in Finance at Cornell University. Ten years later, I earned a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Charter, the result of an intense three year self study program on a wide variety of finance topics.
I have worked as an equity research analyst, as company controller, as a CFO, in business development, strategy and planning. But after a 20 year run, having helped grow one software company from $38 to $150 million in revenue in just four years and then landing my dream job as Chief Financial Officer of a decent sized company, I still felt like I wasn’t where I wanted to be in life. I was working more than ever, rarely seeing my wife and children, and unhealthy from the stress of it all.
Then, a blessing in disguise, I was laid off when my company relocated its’ headquarters out of state. I decided it was time for a change!
Starting my Business
After taking some time off to decompress, I decided my next career step was to learn about internet-based businesses. I then spent a year learning in depth the language, strategies, tools and businesses of the internet. And I put what I was learning to work. I built a number of websites, monetized them with advertising and affiliate offers, used SEO to get my main site to the top of the search engine rankings, drove paid traffic to my offers, and built an email list. It was a steep learning curve, but it was rewarding and profitable.
However, what I wanted to do was build a business, not just “try” things. It was about then that I discovered podcasting, and I knew I’d found my spot. I would create a podcast that would address the very issues that I’d been grappling with, which were figuring out what business to start, how to launch it, and how to grow it into a successful business.
I believe anyone can have a business, particularly an online business since the cost is so low to get it going. My goal is to share great ideas and information about starting and growing a business to help others become successful, too.
This journey has greatly enriched me and added tremendously to what I already knew about business. I look forward to sharing what I know and, with my audience, constantly learning more from my guests. Together we can become wildly successful!
